Q&A:
You seem to be quite liked by players from other Super League teams! Kylo from Nakama and Thaddeus from Technicali both spoke highly of you!
Oh shoot—did they? Dang—oh dang, shucks. I’m a little embarrassed, haha. In a good way, of course! That’s really great to hear, I’m glad I’m able to leave a good impression.
Would you say you ‘click’ well with other players outside of your team?
I haven’t really thought about it that way, I suppose. Usually if I run into anyone I recognize outside of a game, I’ll stop and say hi, maybe chat for a little while if they’re feeling it. I dunno, I guess I enjoy listening to people. It’s nice to be listened to.
You got a favorite planet?
Does Pluto still count? I really like that little guy.
How do you feel about all the training machinery and simulations your coach has? Do you think they’re enough to help you prepare for the games?
We definitely use them a lot, but our coach also makes sure we’re training out in the field too. I actually like the field much more, I like getting as close to the real-deal as possible, and sometimes the guys and I’ll get so caught up in practicing we’ll keep it going past midnight! Much less prep time too. I don’t hate those machines but man, it’s a drag putting the right gear on.
Does your coach approve of these late night training sessions? Do they impact your ability to play at all?
I mean—sometimes. Soommeetiimmmes. Just a little, only if we got a game in the morning, but we’re great playing at night! Andre and I are night owls, y’know? We thrive during our late night games. Coach Black gets on us about ‘not getting enough rest’, but then we’ll catch him in his observatory at 3AM studying the stars, so I think his bad habits are just rubbing off on us, haha.
How do you prepare for a game?
I like to hang out with the guys in the lounge room, or sit in the empty stadium seats and talk with them. I know it’s not ‘actual’ preparation, but it helps me feel better for whatever game we got coming.
And what do you do after a game?
Real specific, but if it’s still open, I’ll go over to the big tank we have in our training room, sit on the ledge, and dip my legs in. I don’t know, something about the cold water and the sound of it hitting the walls is really relaxing, especially after a crazy game. Sometimes Coach Black finds me there and joins me.
